Alabama Butterflies  

Did you know that most all of our local butterflies remain in this area year around? One exception is the beautiful Monarch, which migrates long distances.

Host Foods: Trees (Apples, Cherries & Willows) Note: The Viceroy is the Monarch look-alike. Notice that the Viceroy has a black stripe on its bottom wings…this stripe is lacking on the Monarch.


Gulf Fritillary
Agraulis vanillae
Host Foods: Maypop (Passion Flower)


Cloudless Sulfur
Phoebis sennae
Host Foods: Clovers, Partridge Peas, Sennas


Common Buckeye
Junonia coenia
Host Foods: Plantain, Stonecrop, Vervaines
