Biography of Fairhope City Administrator ICMA-CM, Gregg Mims.
Brently Gregg Mims graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1983, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community and Regional Planning.
After graduation Gregg worked as City Planner/Transportation Coordinator for the City of Hattiesburg, Mississippi from January of 1983 to May of 1994.
In June of 1984 he was offered a position with the City of Mobile, Alabama as City Planner. Through the next several years Gregg was promoted several times ultimately to become the Director of Urban Development. The Urban Development Department was responsible for Land Development activities within the City of Mobile.
The position involved the supervision of over one hundred employees, which included city planners, building inspectors, code enforcement officers and administrative staff.
In 1997 Gregg was hired as the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. As CAO he was responsible for the supervision of over 700 employees and a budget of 61 million dollars. During the 3 ½ years with the City of Hattiesburg Gregg managed over 24 million dollars in Capital Improvement Projects.
In October of 2001 Gregg was hired by the City of Columbus, Mississippi as Chief Operation Officer. He was responsible for assisting in the management of all city departments. During his tenure, the Columbus City Council approved several reorganization changes to city departments and adopted several ordinances to improve operations within city government.
In May of 2006 Gregg was hired as the Planning Director for the City of Fairhope, Alabama. He was responsible for all City Planning Functions. In addition, he was responsible for Human Resources, grants, lobbying for City projects at the City, State, and Federal level.
In December of 2008 Gregg was promoted to General Superintendent for the City of Fairhope with additional responsibilities that included Public Works, Sanitation, Recycling, Construction, Building Maintenance, Human Resources, Senior Services, Civic Center, Museum, Computer Information Systems, and Planning & Building Department. In July of 2009 he was appointed as the City of Fairhope first City Administrator.
In July of 2011 he was designated as a Credentialed Manager by the International City County Management Association (ICMA). He is one of five (5) Credentialed Managers in the State of Alabama.
Gregg is a member of the American Planning Association, International City/County Management Association, Alabama City County Management Association, and recently distinguished as a Certified Alabama Planning & Zoning Official. He is also a past Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce Board Member.
