  SPECIAL HOLIDAY MUSIC AT THE

NIX CENTER IN DECEMBER

 

Get in the holiday spirit with a special Christmas Concert at the Nix Center on Thursday,

December 8th. Nix Center members and their guests are invited to listen or sing along to all of their favorite Christmas Carols.

 

The concert has become a tradition at the Nix Center and is a wonderful way to celebrate the Christmas season with our members and sponsors and enjoy an afternoon of great music and refreshments, said Sherry Sullivan, Director of Community Affairs.

 

The Jammin' Folks are a local musical group that plays each Tuesday at the Nix Center. They have more than 25 members who play various instruments including the dulcimer, the stand up base, accordion , the banjo, the  harmonica, the penny whistle and more Interesting instruments. They also perform throughout the year at many charity events and at local senior citizen facilities.

 

The concert will begin at 2 p.m. and is open to Nix Center members and their guests. Refreshments will follow the concert.

 

Then on Wednesday, December 14th, the Fairhope Elementary School Choir, lead by Ann Whatley,  will perform at the Nix Center during bingo. Bingo begins at 1 p.m., the choir will perform at 2 p.m. and then will be followed by five more bingo games. Bingo  and the concert is open to Nix Center members. Cost is $1 for three cards. Bingo is sponsored monthly by Gentiva

 

             MARK YOUR CALENDAR

 

December 5- Potluck Luncheon, Noon

Please join us for the Christmas potluck luncheon. Main entree will be ham.  Cost is $1 for members with a dish or bring a canned item or an item for the homebound elderly and a dish and get in for free. Dishes should serve at least 8 people.  All items will be donated to the Ecumenical Ministries Food Bank. Sponsored by the Snook Center.

 

NOTE: THERE WILL NOT BE A POTLUCK LUNCHEON IN JANUARY.

 

 

December 7- Birthday Bash; 10:30 a.m.

December 8- Annual Holiday Concert; 2 p.m.

Join us for an afternoon of Christmas music by the Jammin' Folks and holiday refreshments. Bring and item to donate to the homebound elderly for a chance to win a door prize!  The concert is free of charge and open to Nix Center members and their guests.

 

 

December 14-BINGO; 1 p.m.

REC CENTER INDOOR WALKING TRACK AVAILABLE TO NIX CENTER MEMBERS FREE OF CHARGE 

 

The walking track at The Fairhope Recreation Center will continue to be open year -round to members of the Nix Center. All you have to do is show your Nix Center membership card at the front desk.  Only the track is available to Nix Center members; all other areas of the facility are available through a membership with the Rec Center. For questions about hours or additional membership, call 928-7270.

 

 NIX CENTER & ECUMENICAL MINISTRIES PARTNERING TO TAKE CARE OF LOCAL

HOMEBOUND ELDERLY DURING THE HOLIDAYS

 

The Nix Center and Ecumenical Ministries are partnering again this year to prepare Christmas bags for the homebound elderly in our area.

 

The Nix Center will be collecting items for the bags from through Thursday, December 8th.

 

The following are some suggestions for the bags:

Crackers, individual servings of tuna, individual packages of cheese & crackers, nuts, snack foods, Christmas cookies, individual fruit cups,
small peanut butter, small jams
microwave popcorn, individual soups, toothpaste, Kleenex, lotion, socks, slippers, soap, shampoo and/or any other non-perishable item not listed above.

 

Monetary donations will also be accepted and should be made payable to Ecumenical Ministries.

  MAKE AN ORNAMENT AT THE NIX CENTER

Rehab will host a

craft at the Nix

Center on

Thursday, December 15 at 9 a.m.

 

Join Robyn Roberts from Fairhope Health & Rehab to make a Christmas Ornament. All supplies will be provided and there is no charge.

    FREE GIFT WRAPPING AT NIX CENTER

 

Robin Roberts with Fairhope Health & Rehab will offer free gift wrapping to members of the Nix Center on Tuesday, December 6 and Tuesday, December 13th from 10 a.m. noon. The wrapping station will be set-up in the lobby of the Nix Center.

 

Fairhope Health and Rehab will also be offering free gift wrapping at their facility in the month of December for more information on specific times and dates see the flier inserted or call 928-2153.

 

 

HOLIDAY EVENTS IN FAIRHOPE

 

December arrives in a big way with another evening event, Fairhope's Magical Christmas Parade, Friday, December 2 at 7 p.m. The lighted floats, bands, and marching units make their way along Section Street, from Morphy to Oak. Santa himself arrives in town that night, closing out the parade and riding into town on a shiny red Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department truck.

 

Then on December 31st, the City of Fairhope will bring back its New Years Eve Celebration. The celebration will take place in the streets of downtown Fairhope. Residents and visitors are invited to bring their families and ring in the New Year dancing to the variety band, Target. The band will begin playing at 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Fairhope Avenue and Church Street. Other entertainment will include face painting, a DJ, fireworks and a ball drop at midnight.

 

Many downtown restaurants will be open for those who wish to eat in downtown or this year the City will also be providing a hospitality tent on Fairhope Avenue.

NIX CENTER MEMBERS INVITED TO LUNCH AT THE BLAKE ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

 

The Blake Assisted Living Facility has invited Nix Center members to take a tour and enjoy a complimentary lunch on Tuesday, December 13th. The tour will begin at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. To make reservations, please sign up at the Nix Center to call Anan at 259-5588.

 

The Blake is located on Highway 90 in Spanish Fort.

 

THE NUTCRACKER" AT

 FAIRHOPE CIVIC CENTER

 

Fairhope's  Bay Shore Ballet Theatre announces upcoming  performances  of its' highly acclaimed production "The Nutcracker", to be presented on Saturday, December 10th at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, December 11th at 3:00 p.m. at the Fairhope Civic Center,.

 

 

This holiday classic, loved throughout the world, is directed by Janet Carole and is performed to the legendary score of Peter Tchaikovsky. "Experience visions of Sugar Plums" in this magical full length fairytale ballet,. Ticket prices for the preview performance on Sat., Dec. 10th at 2:00 p.m. is $5 for all seats. All other performances are general admission and prices for tickets are $15 for reserved, $12 adults, and $10 seniors and children 12 and under.
