H.L. “SONNY” CALLAHAN AIRPORT
The H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope, Alabama has a 6,600-foot runway with a full-length taxiway, augmented by a new automated weather station (AWOS), can accommodate a full range of propeller and jet traffic in good weather or bad. At the Annual Festival of Flight Air Show a military C-17 heavy cargo transport was easily able to land and maneuver to the delight of thousands of attendees. And, in 2009 the FAA will add WAAS capability to the instrument approaches already available into the airport, which will provide for more precise positioning of airplanes within 250 feet above the runway.

The Fairhope Airport Authority acquired an additional 257 acres of land contiguous to the existing airport, to accommodate new buildings and other facilities which require access or close proximity to the runway environment. Companies wishing to create facilities at the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport may request further information by email at crzunk@gmail.com.

Key tenants already located at the airport include a unit of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, and Continental Motors which operates a full service FBO including complete maintenance facilities for almost any type of piston airplanes. Large and small hangars are also located on the field.
